Do You Have a Card?

I see that I haven't blogged much lately, so I thought I should add a couple posts.  I notice that I apparently enjoy posting stories about what a moron I can be, so with that in mind here is a recent one.

About two months ago, I attended a Sharepoint seminar.  For those unaware, Sharepoint is a Microsoft web portal software package.  Did anyone say geek?  I was the first attendee to arrive at the seminar.  Did anyone say geek?  Does anyone see a pattern?

Since I was the only one there at that point, one of the guys that worked for the company providing the seminar approached me to talk.  He handed me his business card and introduced himself.  I replied with my name and the company I worked for.  He was familiar with my company and told me the name of one of the management team at my company he had spoken with in the past.  After these introductory sentences he then asked me, "Do you have a card?"  I thought...don't ask me why...that he had already forgotten he had given me his business card, so I lifted my hand still holding his card and said, "Sure, you just gave me one."  He replied, "I mean one of your own."  Wow, did I feel like a moron.  I could only reply, "No, I am not important enough to have one."  And now we know why!

I thought it was about time to post a follow-up. A few months ago, my lunch buddy and I were on our way to lunch when he got caught in the lobby by a visiting vendor rep. I stepped away to allow them to talk, but I was still close enough to hear the conversation a bit. She handed him a card, spoke a couple sentences, and then asked if he had a card. Imagine my surprise as I saw him lift her card still in his hand to show that she had already given him one. Just as with my gaffe, she meant did he have a card of his own. What makes his incident worse is that I had already told him of my past experience.
