Samuel ( Art ) Sanders age 80 of Stockbridge passed away on February 25, 2009. Mr. Sanders is a member of Victorious Life Church of God Church in Conyers. He was an active member of the Republican Party in Henry County, Special Olympics and he was also involved with The Jerry Lewis Telethon. He was also a former member of Stockbridge Assembly of God Church in Stockbridge. Art is survived by his wife Viola Sanders, sons David Sanders, Sam Sanders, Vance Sanders, daughters; Sandra Watkins, Denise Holton, Vickey Rattz, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers Leroy Sanders, James Sanders, Edward Sanders, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Art will be held on Sunday March 1, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel with Pastor Larry Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Art Sanders was my father-in-law. I met him for the first time in 1997. He passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the age of 80. At his funeral on Sunday, March 1, 2009, the most common descriptions used in his eulogies were:
- He never knew a stranger.
- He always saw the best in people.
- He never said an unkind word about anyone.
- He never complained.
We buried Art on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in the thundersnow.
Although Art didn't officially die until February 25, I lost Art a couple weeks before when he no longer answered these questions thusly:
Q: What are you up to?
A: Six feet.
Q: How do you feel?
A: With my hands.
